The Requirements for information communication and reporting (Sixth Edition 2026) applies from 13 July 2026. It replaced the Fifth Edition 2022, and the No. 4 instrument re-enacted the item without the comma in the title, so the current compilation reads information communication and reporting.
Item 9 of F2026L00927 repealed table item 4 in clause 1 of Schedule 1 and substituted the Sixth Edition 2026. F2026L00934, the No. 4 instrument, commenced immediately after Part 1 and re-enacted the item without the comma in the title, so the current compilation reads "information communication and reporting". The substance is the same. The Explanatory Statement says the Sixth Edition amends Standard 4 to support current and future digital health standards, including HL7 FHIR, while keeping appropriate conformance for safe data exchange. It records that the change supports uploading pathology reports to My Health Record by default from 1 July 2026, which is a My Health Record policy date rather than a date in this instrument.
Which edition is in the current compilation?
The Sixth Edition 2026, without the comma in the title, after the No. 4 correction.
What is the minimum messaging standard?
The Explanatory Statement says HL7 Version 2.4 as localised for Australia is the minimum, with flexibility to adopt HL7 FHIR under an Australian-approved standard.
